But when summer comes along, it’s time to shape up! It can also be when you’re more likely to get sick or injured because your immune system may not be as strong.

Here are some tips that will help you stay healthy this summer:

With summer fast approaching, it’s time to get ready for some fun in the sun. Here are five tips to stay healthy this summer.

  • Eat Light Foods.

During summer, eating heavy meals is not preferable. Eating light foods will help you avoid feeling tired and sluggish during the day.

  • Exercise

Exercising is good for your body as well as your mind. You don’t need to get into an intense workout routine; simply going outside and going for a walk can improve your health significantly.

  • Eat healthily.

The food you eat can affect your whole body, including your ability to fight off infections. Make sure to eat various foods, including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean protein sources such as chicken and fish.

  • Stay hydrated

It’s essential to drink plenty of water during the hot summer months. If you’re outside in the heat for extended periods, pay attention to how much you’re sweating and drink water often to prevent dehydration.

The heat and humidity can cause you to sweat more than usual. Drinking water throughout the day will help you stay hydrated and prevent headaches, dizziness, and other symptoms of dehydration. It is recommended that you drink half of your body weight in ounces of water every day. So if you weigh 120 lbs, you should drink 60 oz of water per day.

  • Get enough sleep.

Getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night can help your body rest and repair itself to be more prepared to fight off infections. It’s not healthy to sunburn, so be sure to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher when you go outdoors. Wear clothing that protects your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, too — a wide-brimmed hat is always a good idea when spending time in the sun.

Fruit and veggie stands are open all over the country during the summer months, offering fresh local produce. If you’re not sure what’s in season, ask at your local farmers’ market.

  • Get into the water

Whether you like swimming or just splashing around in your bathing suit, water is a great way to stay calm and have fun during the hottest part of the year. It’s also good exercise!

  • Go camping

Getting away from it all in nature is a great way to relax and recharge your batteries for the fall. Pack some healthy snacks (and make sure you’ve got bug repellent!)

  • Get active!
