The best way to lose weight is by incorporating a healthy diet, cardio, and strength training. There are plenty of foods that you can eat that will help you get to your goal weight.

When you’re trying to slim down, every meal and snack counts. But some foods do more harm than good when it comes to the number on the scale. These are the worst weight-loss offenders, according to nutritionists.

9 Foods You MUST Avoid If You Want A Flat Belly

High-sodium foods

The more sodium you eat, the more fluid your body holds on to, which can make you feel bloated — and can also result in unintentional weight gain. One way to cut back on sodium is by avoiding canned goods, processed meats like bacon and sausages, cured meats like salami and corned beef, frozen dinners and pizzas, canned soups, and sauces, chips, pretzels, and other salty snacks. Instead of buying these high-sodium foods at the store, try making your versions at home from scratch with fresh ingredients.

To help reduce bloating and get rid of excess water weight, limit your sodium intake to 1,500 milligrams a day.

Sugar-sweetened beverages

When it comes to losing weight, what you drink matters too — but sugary drinks don’t help much. Sweetened beverages are loaded with empty calories that do little to make you feel full. If you’re choosing between a soda or water for

Refined Grains

Grains like white bread and pasta have been stripped of most of their nutrients in the refining process, so they won’t fill you up for long. “They digest quickly and cause a blood sugar spike that triggers more hunger and cravings,” says Bethany Doerfler, RDN, clinical research manager at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Wellness Institute in Chicago.

French Fries and Other Fried Foods

Here’s another reason not to go out for greasy food: The average order of fries has 610 calories — nearly half of a typical 1,500-calorie daily diet!

Potato Chips

It doesn’t matter if they’re plain or flavored like sour cream and onion — potato chips are one of the unhealthiest snacks you can eat when trying to lose weight

Fruit juice

Fruit juice is often mistaken for a healthy drink, but it’s just as high in sugar as soda — even though it has vitamins and minerals fruit juice lacks the fiber of whole fruit, so the sugar is released into your bloodstream more quickly. Try adding some sliced fruit to your water instead. Or try some flavored sparkling water with no calories, added sugar, or additives.

Sodas are loaded with sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, which can lead to weight gain, especially in the abdominal area. A recent study from Harvard University found that people who drink soda have a 27 percent greater risk of developing a “potbelly.”

Alcohol contains a lot of sugar. If you are drinking a glass of wine every night with dinner and an occasional beer or two on weekends, it will affect your ability to lose weight. Liquor has even more calories than wine or beer, so it is best to stay away from those types of alcoholic beverages when trying to shed pounds.

Sausages contain saturated fat and nitrates which are often linked with increasing the risk of cancer and heart disease. Sausage also contains many calories, which means that eating it can cause you to gain weight quickly.

Eating healthy doesn’t have to make you feel like you’re eating rabbit food. Lean proteins, fresh vegetables, fruity salads, and complex carbs are just some of the foods that will help keep you satisfied with your healthy diet. Avoiding unhealthy sugary foods and starchy carbs is a must. However, if you do eat these you should follow my motto: “everything in moderation.” Being consistent with your healthy choices is what will ensure your diet will be effective for weight loss.
