The Benefits Of Massage

Massage therapy is systematically and strategically manipulating the soft tissues of the human body to produce a relaxed state, as well as alleviating things like pain, discomfort, anxiety, and fatigue,

Massage is a general term for pressing, rubbing, and manipulating your skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Massage may range from light stroking to deep pressure.

Massage is one of the oldest healing traditions. Many ancient peoples – including the Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese, and Indians – were convinced of the therapeutic properties of massage and used it to treat a variety of ailments.

Types of Massage are;

  • Swedish massage. This is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration, and tapping. It helps you feel relaxed and energized.
  • Deep massage. This massage technique uses slower, more forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It’s commonly used to help with muscle damage from injuries.
  • Sports massage. This is similar to Swedish massage, but it’s geared toward people involved in sports activities to help prevent or treat injuries.
  • Trigger point massage. This massage focuses on areas of tight muscle fibers that can form in your muscles after injuries or overuse.

The benefits of massage include:

  • Reducing stress and increasing relaxation

Massage lowers the levels of stress hormones like cortisol and increases the levels of feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine. It also boosts immunity by stimulating lymph flow — the body’s natural defense system.

Massage therapy can relax muscle tissue, which may lead to reduced nerve compression, increased joint space and range of motion, and release of tension-holding patterns in soft tissue. This can lead to pain relief, increased mobility in joints, and improved circulation.

Both acute and chronic inflammation can be reduced through massage therapy. Therapeutic touch stimulates blood circulation throughout the body, which enables the transport of oxygen and nutrients to cells that need it most.

  • Reducing pain and muscle soreness and tension

Massage seems to have a beneficial effect on circulation. It does this by helping to dilate the blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more freely through the body.

Massage may also stimulate blood circulation, which can help to remove waste products from the muscles. This helps to reduce muscle soreness and tension.

Massage may also help to improve tissue healing. This is because it helps to increase blood flow to areas of injured tissue and encourages nutrients and oxygen to be delivered there. The increased delivery of nutrients and oxygen may help speed up recovery time after injury.

The benefits of massage include;

  • Improving circulation, energy, and alertness

Massage improves circulation by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to body tissues. It can reduce blood pressure and lower your heart rate, as well as increase blood circulation and lymph flow.

A good massage can also make you feel more alert and energized, particularly if you’ve been suffering from fatigue or depression.

  • Lowering heart rate and blood pressure

High blood pressure is a serious health issue that can lead to heart attack or stroke. Massage lowers blood pressure through a variety of mechanisms such as relaxing muscles, dilating blood vessels, and reducing anxiety levels, which may reduce blood pressure through activation of the “relaxation response.”

  • Intimacy between couples

Touching and being touched feels good, but there’s more to it than that. Several studies suggest that physical touch can lower blood pressure and increase hormones like oxytocin, which makes us feel good. And a small study published in the Journal of Health Psychology found that massages that couples give each other are beneficial for the giver and the receiver. So, if you have a partner and are looking to bond a bit, it may not be a bad idea to break out some massage oil and use it on them (or vice versa).

  • Increase joint flexibility

Massage helps stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles, and bones. The stretching of these bonds allows your muscles and joints to move more freely with less pain.
