Tips For Self Care
Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it’s a simple concept, in theory, it’s something we very often overlook. Good self-care is key to improved mood and reduced anxiety. It’s also key to a good relationship with oneself and others.
Self-care looks different for everyone, but some examples include taking a long bath at the end of the day, going for a walk on your lunch break, or saying no to plans when you need an evening to yourself. What helps one person relax may not work for someone else — and that’s OK. The most important part of self-care is to do what works for you.
Self-care is all about your relationship with yourself. You don’t need to be in a relationship to have an intimate relationship with yourself. So, that means that you need to be there for yourself because the only person you can truly depend on is yourself. Self-care is an act of self-love. It’s not selfish to take care of yourself. It’s vital!
Most of us spend more time taking care of others than we do taking care of ourselves. We feel guilty when we take time off from our responsibilities and take care of ourselves instead. But, it does not always have to be like this. We can create a balance between taking care of others and taking care of ourselves so that we don’t feel like we are neglecting our responsibilities or the people we love.
- Learn how to say “no” so that you can set boundaries with other people and make them respect your time and energy more.
- Stop comparing yourself to others.
While it’s a good idea to have role models, you should never compare yourself to others. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, and there’s no point in comparing your weaknesses to other people’s strengths.
- Make time for yourself.
Even if you only have five minutes, take some time every day to do something that makes you feel good. This could mean anything from reading a book to taking a short walk outside or talking on the phone with a friend or listening to music while you take a long bath.
- Do something creative.
There are many ways to express creativity and none of them need be “artistic” in the traditional sense. Creative activities can include writing, drawing, cooking/baking, dancing, playing music, singing in the shower, and more. The key is just to express yourself creatively.
- Have fun!
Life is meant to be enjoyed so go out there and have some fun! Make time for play and recreation in your life like going on adventures, having dance parties while you cook dinner, or playing with your dog at the park.
To sum up, self-care is essential to feeling good and living a happy life. When you’re taking care of yourself, you’re less likely to let situations get out of control or lose your temper. You’ll feel better physically as well, so it’s well worth the effort.
